Community Day set for Sept. 9

Bethel Park Community Day is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9 in the parking lot at Bethel Park High School.

The event features more than 60 vendor booths, providing a variety of games, fundraisers, refreshments and more.

The Community Day parade will have a new route this year, starting at 9 a.m. at the Bethel Park Municipal Building and heading to Broad Street and then to the high school. The parade lineup is at 8 o’clock at the municipal building.

Church hosts Acting Up Club

South Hills Church of the Nazarene, 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park, announces the upcoming session of the Acting Up Club, for children in second through sixth grades.

The sessions will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 6 to Dec. 10. Participants will have the opportunity to cultivate their music, movement and acting skills as they prepare for the Christmas musical.

To secure a spot in the club, interested individuals are required to register at www.shcn.org/auc. The registration fee is $20.

Star party at Millennium Park

A night of viewing the stars, planets, galaxies and nebulae starts at 7 o’clock on Sept. 15 at Millennium Park, 5900 Baptist Road, Bethel Park.

Representatives of the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will give a presentation. Afterward, guests will be able to look through telescopes provided by volunteers.

Explanations of what’s being viewed will be given, along with answering participants’ questions. If you have your own telescope and aren’t sure how to use it, bring it along and someone from the astronomers association will help with the setup. Binoculars are welcome, too.

Vendors sought for garage sale

The Bethel Park Business Association is taking vendor applications for its second annual Garage Sale in the Park on Sept. 16. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Industrial Boulevard in the Bethel Park Industrial Park.

Rock for Autism returns

Tony’s Tigers Rock for Autism XII is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Holy Trinity Picnic Grounds, 1450 Hamilton Road, Castle Shannon.

The event, for guests 21 and older, features music by Scott, Rob and Greg of The Clarks, and will be hosted by sports radio personality Chris Mueller. Admission is $70 and includes beer, soft drinks, and a food voucher from Yovi’s food truck.

Lectures focus on environment

The Bethel Park Historical Society has teamed up with the Allegheny Land Trust to schedule a series of lectures focusing on the environment.

On the schedule for Sept. 18 are Organic Fiesta, 4:30-5:15 p.m., and Composting 101, 6 to 7 p.m., at the Schoolhouse Arts and History Center, 2600 South Park Road.

Job fair scheduled

A job fair will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave.

Employers can register at bethelpark.net/jobfair. The event is sponsored by the Bethel Park Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the municipality of Bethel Park.

DivorceCare offered

South Hills Church of the Nazarene, 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park, is offering DivorceCare.

The fall hybrid session will be held in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. Thursdays from Sept. 7 to Dec. 14. For more information and to sign up, contact the facilitators at [email protected].

South Arts Pittsburgh show

South Arts Pittsburgh is holding an art show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Schoolhouse Arts and History Center, 2600 South Park Road.

Featured is a variety of original framed artwork and photography by local artists. Cards and matted prints also are available. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.

The Bethel Park Historical Society will have an open house from noon to 3 p.m. that includes tours of the schoolhouse. The event coincides with the Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company open house across Park Avenue.

South Arts will have a raffle fundraiser, and a percentage of all art sales will go to the historical society for their continued improvements to the schoolhouse.

Green Light-Go grant

Gov. Josh Shapiro announced that 77 municipalities will receive a total of $35.5 million to support traffic signal upgrades, increasing safety and mobility through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s “Green Light-Go” program.

Bethel Park is the recipient of $41,280 to replace antiquated pedestrian signal equipment at Oxford Drive and Home Depot Driveway/UPMC South Driveway, and Oxford Drive and Alicia Drive.

Women’s Bible study

South Hills Church of the Nazarene, 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park, is offering Women’s Evening Bible Study at 7 p.m. the first and third Fridays of each month, beginning Oct. 6.

The group will study Max Lucado’s “Life Lessons in Psalms.” Hybrid participation is offered. All women are invited to attend. For more information and to sign up, email [email protected] or call 412-352-5684.
