STORYTIME LEARN & PLAY: Fridays at 9 a.m. at the Lansingburgh Branch of the Troy Public Library, located at 27 114th St., Troy. We will share stories, songs, movements and more! Masks are optional but are not required. For children ages 0-5 with a caregiver. Registration is not necessary. Please note: this program occurs before the library opens for the day. TROY NIGHT OUT: Last Friday of every month, 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Troy. Troy Night Out is an extended evening highlighting shops, restaurants, arts and culture that takes place on the last Friday of every month in downtown Troy. Attendees are able to support virtually or stroll throughout the streets and businesses, enjoying art openings, music performances, fine restaurants as well as unique boutiques of all varieties. Call in for to-go orders or shop items for curbside pick-up, watch live performances through Facebook, gather friends and family virtually the Last Friday of each month to connect, support and relax! WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort. 9:30 am. Wiggly Wanderers has officially been around for 1 year! This is an ongoing weekly program that is toddler focused. We welcome all family members but please understand the toddlers are in charge of this one. We wander, we roll over logs, we explore toads and worms and leaves. Strollers do not work with this program but baby wearing is very welcome. Please pack a change of clothes for the car, the wigglers often end up wet, dirty and tired. This program costs $1 per toddler, which helps us feed the nature center animals. No registration is required, please meet at the nature center. We start walking at 9:35am.

POND EXPLORATION: Back by popular demand, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park’s Pond Exploration Programs are running again this summer. Children and dip nets and water are a great way to discover and learn about the freshwater aquatic wildlife at Delegan Pond. This recurring program takes place on Friday mornings beginning on July 7 and runs through August 25 from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Participants can use the dip nets that are provided to search for pond life, including frogs, salamanders, tadpoles, crayfish, and aquatic insects. Participants can park in Parking Lot #1 located on Scout Road, directly across from the pond. Registration is required as space is limited. LEARN TO MAKE HULA HOOPS: At the Troy Public Library. Join us for a Saturday morning outdoor workshop where participants will learn to make hula hoops! Experienced hula-hoop maker and all-around crafter Allison will help participants figure out the perfect size hula hoop for them and will weld the unfinished hoops together. Participants can then decorate their hoops however they’d like and in a rainbow of colors. The workshop will be held Saturday, August 26, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. This in-person event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. OUTDOOR FARMERS MARKET: The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market heads outdoors to the streets of downtown Troy. The summer market is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features over 100 vendors. Free parking is available in the City’s 5th Street Parking Garage, Riverfront Park, the Green Island Bridge lots and on city streets. WALK-A-THON: This is Saratoga County 4-H’s annual fundraiser to support the 4-H Training Center. There will be over two hundred youth and adults from Saratoga County involved in the event as both walkers and volunteers. HORSE FARM TOUR: The annual Saratoga County Horse Farm Tour will take place on August 26 from 12 PM—4 PM at two participating horse farms. This is a FREE drive-it-yourself event offered to the community, with a mission of promoting the equine industry and providing the public an opportunity to experience life on a horse farm. MOVIE SCREENING: The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department relies solely on volunteers to respond to emergencies in our community. Learn more about why SVFD members answered the call to volunteer. Join members of the SVFD for a free community screening of the family- friendly movie “Odd Hours, No Pay, Cool Hat” on August 27, 7 PM at the Stephentown Fire Hall. This newly released documentary highlights the critical role volunteer fire departments play across the country.

WALKING TOUR: Hosted by the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation. Tours are limited to 30 participants each and tickets must be purchased in advance. Tours tend to sell out quickly, so participants are advised to purchase tickets early at www.saratogapreservation.org. Cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for non-members. All tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. FOREST BATHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort. 9 am. Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings. Iit is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. Pay $5 each (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. No children under 14 are permitted for this program due to the quiet, calm nature of it. CHARCOAL ART DEMONSTRATION: Southern Saratoga Art Society will be hosting a Charcoal Drawing demonstration on Monday, August 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the Clifton Park Senior Community Center, 6 Clifton Common Blvd., Tel.#: 518-383-1343 featuring lifelong artist and educator, Ed Ticson. NATURE ON THE MOVE: At Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park, 80 Scout Road, Wilton. 10:30am. These walks give participants an opportunity to get out on the trails with like-minded people. They are geared towards gentle exercise and the enjoyment of nature, and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The group usually covers about 1.5 miles. Nature on the Move happens every other week, year-round. The August 28 walk will be led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators on the trails of Camp Saratoga. THEATER AUDITIONS: Malta Spotlighter’s Theatre Troupe will be holding auditions on Sunday August 27 and Monday August 28 for the musical production of ‘The Headless Horseman’, based on the classic ghost story by Washington Irving. FREE KIDS MOVIE: The Palace Theatre’s Summer in the City Movie Series, presented by Broadview Federal Credit Union, offers free, family-friendly movies to children and families from neighborhoods around the Palace in downtown Albany, with targeted outreach to low-income and underserved families in the City. ICC BINGO: The Italian Community Center Charitable Foundation hosts Bingo night on Tuesdays. Doors open at 5 p.m. at 1450 Fifth Avenue, Troy. Food and beverages will be sold.

COMMUNITY MEAL: YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc., located at 21 First St. in Troy, serves a weekly community meal from 5 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday. It is a free-of-charge, to-go dinner provided for YWCA residents as well as anyone in the community. All are welcome to join us each week for a free, nutritious cooked meal. Meals are prepared by a variety of volunteers including but not limited to YWCA-GCR staff, residents, community members and students. Residents are encouraged to participate in preparation of the meals and will be assisted by staff in menu planning, shopping and time management. We serve an average of 75 people per week. The YWCA-GCR also partners with community organizations to set up booths at weekly Community Meal to advertise, promote and engage guests in services. LEARN TO PAINT WITH WATERCOLOR: Join the library for a series of watercolor workshops where participants will work on seasonal landscapes under the direction of local artist Emma Rinaldi. We will be starting with a flower field, moving on to a sunny mountainscape, and finishing with an ocean view. Whether you are familiar with watercolor or have never used the medium before, all are welcome to attend. Materials will be provided. Participants can come to as many or few workshops as they choose (registration for each class is separate). The first workshop will be held on June 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, the second workshop will be held on July 26 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lansingburgh Branch, and the third workshop will be held on August 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library. This full moon is extra special- not only is it a supermoon, it’s also a blue moon and the last monthly blue moon for nearly 2 years! KNEE-HIGH NATURALIST: At Moreau Lake State Park, 605 Old Saratoga Road, Gansevoort. 9 am. Geared toward children aged 2-5, (siblings welcome) Knee-high Naturalist is a fun introduction to nature. We meet in the Nature Center where we begin by reading a nature-themed book or two and then take a short walk together outdoors, keeping our eyes open for animal tracks, shells, feathers, and other signs of the natural world around us. KNIT & CROCHET GROUP: Join the Troy Public Library for a bi-weekly stitching group from 10 to 11 a.m. on every first and third Friday of the month. Whether you have experience knitting or crocheting or you want to start learning a new skill, this group is for you! Participants will work together to stitch blankets and other needed items to donate to local homeless shelters and outreach groups. Participants are also welcome to work on their own personal projects. Bring your own knitting needles and crochet hooks or use what we have available. SYCAWAY SENIORS: Need a diversion in your life? Food, fun and friends await you. Bring a friend or neighbor to the Sycaway Seniors group. Members live all over Rensselaer County, not just Sycaway. We meet the first and third Mondays each month at 18 Keyes Lane, at the Brunswick Community Center from noon to 3 p.m. Bring your own lunch. We supply dessert and drinks. FOOD HUB WEBINAR: Saratoga Cornell Cooperative Extension USDA Food Hub Feasibility Study Webinar Series. Noon-1pm Sept. 6, 13, 20, and 27. Links will be emailed to registered participants. The Food Hub Feasibility Study.webinar series explores the findings of a study conducted by Saratoga CCE, which was funded by the USDA’s 2021 Local Food Promotion Program grant. Through research, analysis, and on-the-ground work, this study details available and potential markets for local foods. We offer recommendations to best service the local food system that considers distribution, infrastructure, farm-to-institution, food access, the emergency food system, and climate change.

TROY CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Troy City Council meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month in the Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 433 River St. in Troy. At the monthly Regular meetings, Troy residents can discuss any issue related to the City of Troy. LEARN MICROSOFT WORD: At the Troy Public Library. Join the library for two hands-on computer classes as we master the dreaded Microsoft Word application. In part 1 on September 7, 2-3:30 p.m., we will cover document basics, how to format documents, how to insert special characters, use footnotes, and page numbers, and check spelling and grammar. In part 2 on September 14, 2-3:30 p.m., we will learn how to create columns and tables, insert and format pictures, create and use text boxes, how to manage watermarks, and how to use (and delete) page and line breaks. Laptops will be provided to all participants. Registration for each class is separate, participants can come to one or both classes as they choose. GARAGE SALE PREVIEW: The Woman’s Club of Albany will open the doors of its historic home for a “super” garage sale on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9. The event will take place at 725 Madison Ave., Albany, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A special preview sale will be held on Thursday, Sept. 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for an entry fee of $5. Proceeds from the event benefit The Woman’s Club, a non-profit organization founded in 1910 to improve conditions for women and children in Albany. The sale will feature a wide variety of vintage and new donated items, including furniture, small appliances, jewelry, glassware, linens, toys and books, new and “newish” fall and winter women’s and men’s clothing, coats and shoes and baby and children’s things. There also will be a raffle of gift baskets. Public donations of clean, intact items for the sale will be accepted on Tuesday, Sept. 5, from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 6.p.m. at the WCA. No bowling balls, car seats, electronics, fish tanks, bedding, mattresses, exercise equipment or skis will be accepted.

SIDEWALK WARRIORS: Each Thursday evening in the parking lot at 35 State St. in Troy, dozens of volunteers set up a large number of tables for Sidewalk Warriors’ weekly distribution. At these tables, visitors can find hot foods, sandwiches, produce, pantry items and essentials. The group often provides special distributions such as towels, linens, pillows, winter boots, underwear, socks or laundry detergent. The folks who attend the distribution may be experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, or they may simply be running short on resources at the end of the month. Set up for the weekly Sidewalk Warriors distribution events begins at 5 p.m. each Thursday, and volunteers begin serving at 6 p.m., no matter what the weather. BINGO: Rensselaer Elks Lodge #2073, located at 683 Columbia Turnpike, hosts Bingo every Thursday evening and the general public is welcome to attend. Doors open at 5 PM for players age 18+. Play starts at 7 PM. $1,300 in prizes. Food and refreshments sold.

PADDLE TRIP: 10 am during the Tugboat Roundup in Waterford. Join other paddlers and kayakers as they paddle the Waterford Flight, a series of locks with the highest elevation (169 feet) in the shortest distance in the US. Enter the canal at Lock 6 and finish the journey exiting Lock 2 in the heart of Tugboat Roundup. Don’t miss this opportunity for an up close on the water look tugs big and small.

CHICKEN DINNER: Annual chicken barbecue to be held at Gilead Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 9. Dinner will consist of 1/2 chicken, corn, baked potato, roll, coleslaw, and dessert. The church is located at 308 Brick Church Road in the town of Brunswick. It is take-out only and available from 4-6pm for a cost of $15.00. GARAGE SALE: The Woman’s Club of Albany will open the doors of its historic home for a “super” garage sale on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9. The event will take place at 725 Madison Ave., Albany, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A special preview sale will be held on Thursday, Sept. 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for an entry fee of $5. Proceeds from the event benefit The Woman’s Club, a non-profit organization founded in 1910 to improve conditions for women and children in Albany. The sale will feature a wide variety of vintage and new donated items, including furniture, small appliances, jewelry, glassware, linens, toys and books, new and “newish” fall and winter women’s and men’s clothing, coats and shoes and baby and children’s things. There also will be a raffle of gift baskets. Public donations of clean, intact items for the sale will be accepted on Tuesday, Sept. 5, from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 6.p.m. at the WCA. HISTORIC TOUR: 10 am – Historic Jonesville. Join Clifton Park Historian John Scherer for a walk through the historic hamlet of Jonesville and a tour of the Jonesville Rural Cemetery. LEARN MICROSOFT WORD: At the Troy Public Library. Join the library for two hands-on computer classes as we master the dreaded Microsoft Word application. In part 1 on September 7, 2-3:30 p.m., we will cover document basics, how to format documents, how to insert special characters, use footnotes, and page numbers, and check spelling and grammar. In part 2 on September 14, 2-3:30 p.m., we will learn how to create columns and tables, insert and format pictures, create and use text boxes, how to manage watermarks, and how to use (and delete) page and line breaks. KNIT & CROCHET GROUP: Join the Troy Public Library for a bi-weekly stitching group from 10 to 11 a.m. on every first and third Friday of the month. Whether you have experience knitting or crocheting or you want to start learning a new skill, this group is for you! Participants will work together to stitch blankets and other needed items to donate to local homeless shelters and outreach groups. Participants are also welcome to work on their own personal projects. Bring your own knitting needles and crochet hooks or use what we have available. BALLSTON AREA SENIORS: The Ballston Area Seniors will be meeting at the Town of Milton Community Center, 310 Northline Rd. Ballston Spa, NY. Every Thursday at 10 a.m. to play cards, use the craft room and play pool or just socialize. Lunch is at noon.
